Libraries

I'm not much of a library guy. I'm not sure why I never go to libraries. I just don't. Maybe it is because I don't like driving to them? I don't even know where the closest one is to me.

There is a chance I may be living within walking distance to one soon, so I'm trying to imagine that, to see if it would change anything about how I live.

Would I visit the library more if it was across the street?

Would I spend time there or would I just check something out and leave?

These questions are hard for me to answer, because as I said, I never go to libraries. I don't know what they are like. For those of you that do visit libraries, maybe you can help me out.

  1. Are they nice? By that I mean, do they resemble a Barnes & Nobles feel at all or do they have more of an airline terminal "I feel like I should take a shower after being here" feel?
  2. What kind of selection of books am I going to find? Do they only have older books or will I be able to find new releases there? Will they have the same items as what you can find at a bookstore?
  3. What are some other pros and cons about libraries?

I have a long list of books I'd like to read, but I'm putting off buying them for now, in the event that I decide this library thing is a good idea. Normally I buy books (spend $15), browse through them for a week and put them down and never touch them again. Then I wonder why I bought them. At first glance, it seems like a library would be perfect for me.

I know what you are thinking. You're thinking "Why don't you just visit a library, check out some books, and see for yourself?" And that's really smart. It's a good idea. But they are far away right now, and I'm feeling lazy.
